1) Barron's , Peterson's and Kaplans are less than half the price, and each of them have TWO practice tests, not one like this one2) Sloppiness -- they restart the number count in each section of their practice test. i.e. Verbal counts from 1-60, then the Quantitative starts at number 1 again. This is NOT how the real test is numbered, The numbers do not start over, it counts to 240+. The purpose of this is to make it harder for a student to "write answer in the wrong section". It's a smaller point but shows lack of attention to important detail.
3) No Time Allocated in each section -- this does not tell you the times you are allowed for each section at the top of the section, like the test does, an important point.
4) Incorrect Scope of Math Coverage -- book covers solid Algebra I topics that are NOT in the scope of the math on this test. Examples: pg 76 , in depth explanation of using the Quadratic Equation. pg 73 Multiply Polynomials. The math on this test I would say is "pre-Algebra" , or some basic algebra.
Ok, Mr. Smart Guy , you say -- why then all the 5 star reviews on this book? Actually, notice it seems to have not just better reviews but a higher # of reviews than its competitors. Well, look at the first page. It says "Free Study DVD" if you send them feedback. I'm guessing somehow this offer of a gift for feedback is biasing reviews in positive direction.

My son and I started reviewing the guide last night, and after reviewing the verbal skills section just once, and then having him do practice questions, his score significantly improved...just with one review session! I'm sure many other students, just like my son, possess the requisite knowledge to answer test questions...but they need guidance on test taking techniques. Once my son understood how to navigate the questions, the answers just opened for him. He is feeling much more confident, and I am one happy mom! Glad we purchased the guide.
This study guide is very informative and has covered a lot of lessons that I am sure will make my students be successful in their high school placement test. I am a teacher and I purchased this book to help me in providing a good review and preparation guide to my students who will soon be taking the high school placement test for selective enrollment. I am confident that, after we go through with the review using this study guide, they will be successful. Thank you for having this book for the students.
The book essentially has links to watch videos online. There is a note attached to the front page requesting to email them if you are interested in getting a DVD with all the videos. The information in the book is the same you would find anywhere else, the hassle of having to go look elsewhere and stare at a screen is not appealing, especially when paying over $40 for a book.
